It became apparent as I began working with clients with homeopathy and coaching that at times, they were simply too tired to think or talk.
I wanted to keep momentum to sessions and so decided to train as a massage therapist and reiki practitioner.
Both of these disciplines complement any healing journey. Sometimes we simply need to feel nurtured and be able to fully receive.
These are both offered as stand alone sessions if preferred but many homeopathic and coaching clients choose to incorporate body / spiritual work because as they begin to heal, new layers reveal themselves.
It is important to use the right tool for the job – there are times when a soothing massage or re-balancing reiki session is just the thing!
"The more we learn about touch, the more we realize just how central it is in all aspects of our lives… it's no surprise that a single touch can affect us in multiple, powerful ways."
MARIA KONNIKOVA
Holistic massage is a person-centred approach to hands on body work.
It can relieve muscle tension, improve skin tone and help re-connect you to your physical body.
Often when we are struggling with health conditions or are suffering with anxiety or chronic stress, we ‘step-outside’ of ourselves as a protection mechanism.
Touch is profoundly healing and transformative.
It helps to ground the physical body and encourages us to relax and let go of unwanted tension.
Treatment is received skin-to-skin on a massage table or massage chair depending on what areas are being worked.
Benefits include:
Stress Reduction: Massage can significantly reduce stress hormones like cortisol, promoting relaxation and a sense of calm.
It can ease muscle tension, soreness, and pain associated with conditions like backaches, headaches, and arthritis.
Massage can enhance blood flow, which helps deliver oxygen and nutrients to tissues and remove waste products.
Regular massage can improve range of motion and flexibility in muscles and joints.
It can help release tight muscles, reducing stiffness and improving overall mobility.
Relaxation and reduced stress from massage can contribute to better sleep quality.
Some studies suggest that massage may stimulate the lymphatic system, which plays a crucial role in immune function.
“A calm mind brings inner strength and self-confidence, so that’s very important for good health.”
DALAI LAMA
Reiki is a gentle, energy centred treatment aimed to re-balance, revive and energise you.
Treatment may be giving ‘hands-off’ where my hands are placed above different energy centres of your body, or ‘hands on’, where the light placement of my hands will be felt.
Reiki is performed fully clothed, either lying on a massage table or chair – whichever you prefer.
Reiki is often seen as a spiritual therapy. Whilst I agree with this, it is not necessary to hold specific beliefs in order for reiki to be effective.
We all need a bit of help from time to time.
Self-Care is not selfish: it’s essential.
Benefits include:
Reiki can significantly reduce stress hormones like cortisol, promoting relaxation and a sense of calm.
It may help alleviate pain associated with various conditions, such as headaches, backaches, and arthritis.
By promoting relaxation and reducing stress, Reiki can contribute to better sleep patterns.
Reiki can help alleviate anxiety, depression, and emotional distress.
Some studies suggest that Reiki may stimulate the lymphatic system, which plays a crucial role in immune function.
Reiki may support the body's natural healing processes, aiding in recovery from injuries or illnesses.
Many people report feeling more energised and revitalised after a Reiki session.
I had the privilege of training with Ann Carter who developed the HEARTS Process, at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester.
Designed to assist practitioners working with those who may be limited to receive hands-on therapies due to sensitivities, contra-indicated pathology or a weakened energy system, The HEARTS Process uses a fusion of the senses to create states of deep relaxation and calm with ease.
A treatment combining all or some of the above elements is what really appealed to me.
It is important to cultivate a space that is conducive to healing and this can only be done when a person feels safe enough to let go.
The emphasis is on genuine, authentic connection. It is a continuous dialogue of giving and receiving.
Empathy through touch and a sensory rich experience far trumps elaborate technique.
It truly is fascinating work and you can read more here.
From this, I gained confidence to weave more of my NLP training into my Massage and Reiki practice. I continue to enjoy exploring the creativity and restoration this brings.
